The Cheverly Day 2015 T-Shirt

What was the idea behind this year's t-shirt? This year's theme -- Keep Cheverly Wild -- which was inspired by the two amazing trunk sculptures that mark the entrance to Town Park and the Community Center. Honed out of dead tree stumps, the sculptures celebrate wildlife and nature in and around Cheverly.  Both pieces are by artist Joe Stebbing of Thurmont, Maryland. Joe is well known in the region for his carving (learn more about him here.)

Throwback Thursday: CHVProm Photo Booth

Susan & Joseph Pruden, here with Jolene & Glen Ivey

Over the years, Cheverly's own Susan and Joseph Pruden have given us an amazing gift: they've taken some amazing photos of CHVProm party-goers. We're bringing you just a few, but if you want to get lost in a very amusing rabbit hole, visit their flickr page and prepare to be amazed!

Thank you, Susan & Joe, for all these amazing memories!
(It was REALLY hard to choose just a few...)

Entertainment at Cheverly Day 2015: The BIG Event!

David Thorpe, with Naser Abadey, at Cheverly Day 2014
All week long, we've featured the great lineup of musical artists who will grace our stage this Cheverly Day. Today, in addition to talking about what's in store to round out Cheverly Day 2015, we extend a special thanks to David Thorpe, who coordinates not only the whole Cheverly Day experience, but curates the music that you hear every Cheverly Day. THANK YOU, DAVID!

Mayor Mike Callahan, assisted by RJ Eldridge in 2014
After the last of the bands has played, join us for the Annual Mayor's Awards, which honor the spirit of community service, which is alive and well in Cheverly. Past winners include Pat Nelson, Dave Kneipp, Gabe Horchler, Doug Alexander, Kristy and Nick D'Angelo, and other hardworking neighbors who make Cheverly such a wonderful place to live.

Alex Rapp
Our final musical guest of the evening, Cheverly's very own Alex Rapp, will perform the National AnthemAlex, age 19, has lived in Cheverly since she was born and now attends the Berklee College of Music in Boston as a vocalist. Alex loves Cheverly and is proud to have been asked to sing the National Anthem on Cheverly Day!

Of course, the whole day leads up to our favorite part of the celebration: THE FIREWORKS! We are always amazed at the gorgeous show Zambelli Fireworks puts on here in Cheverly, and we're sure this year will be no exception.
This is going to be a Cheverly Day to remember, and we can't wait to spend it with you!

Entertainment at Cheverly Day 2015: Interstellar Soul

Throughout the week, we're featuring the great performers who will join us onstage at Cheverly Day 2015. Today, we're happy to present Interstellar Soul, a power trio hailing from the suburbs of Baltimore. The group brings their alternative soul  sound to the Baltimore music scene. It's psychedelic soul using their love of soul, blues, rock, alternative, trance, and anything else that inspires them to push the envelope.

The band got its start in Ellicott City, where Guitarist/Songwriter Ernest Douglas met bassist Gregg Gaither. The two jammed on and off again for a number of years before meeting and joining forces with percussionists Rodney Moore. The trio have made their way around Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and West Virginia, gaining the respect of their peers as well as the love of the crowd. After a few months of rehearsals, the group headed to Wright Way Studios in Baltimore to start work on their debut album "Soul Brothers" with Engineer Drew Lamond, which was released in June of 2014. The group brought in drummer Cheech Barry after Moore relocated with his family to the west coast. Interstellar Soul now focuses on expanding their reach and style by touring in the summer and working with members of the philly soul scene. Interstellar Soul has appeared at The Baltimore Soundstage, The Ottobar, The Mad Tea Party Jam, Pink Moon 6, and The Main Street Music Fest.

Watch Interstellar Soul perform a cover of "Misunderstood", and make sure to catch them live onstage, 3:45pm, this Cheverly Day!
