CHVProm 2016...we can't wait for the biggest party of the year!

The Cheverly Community Center Gym goes from this...
Every year, through the tireless work of the terrific CHVProm Committee and the Department of Public Works, our nondescript gym gets transformed into Cheverly's big dance: it's CHVProm 2016!

CHVProm kicks off Cheverly Day's 85th Anniversary celebration weekend with music, dancing, great food, drinks, and prizes! This year’s theme is "Timeless."  CHVProm begins at 8:00pm on Friday, May 20, and doesn't run out of gas until midnight.

...to this for CHVProm!
Start brainstorming with your friends now to win the “Best Decorated Table” contest! Competition for the best decorated table is always fierce, and over the years, we've been impressed by Cheverly Metro, Feral Foxes, Gilligan and friends, 007 and Goldfinger... What ever happened to the gold mannequin that decorated that table? Last time we saw her, she was crowd surfing, then riding in the 80th Anniversary Parade the next morning...who knows what will turn up in the parade THIS year? Anyhow, CHVProm is always a wild night. We can't wait to see the results!

While the decor and fashions are always great fun, dancing and food are big draws! Cheverly has a wealth of great cooks, and the potluck buffet served up at CHVProm is fantastic.

Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, April 20 and sell out quickly every year! Individual tickets are $15 per person or you can buy a full table of 12 for $180.  Individual tickets and tables of 12 will be sold at Town Hall during normal business hours, CHECK OR MONEY ORDER ONLY, made out to Cheverly Day Inc., memo line "CHVProm tickets".  Alternatively, you can purchase a table directly from committee member Robin Kaye.  Please note: THERE ARE NO ADVANCED TICKET SALES OR RESERVATIONS.

Want to help? Please contact committee chair Lane Thompson if you have any questions or would like to volunteer for planning, set-up, or cleanup.

Just one week from now...

Just one week from tonight, through the work of the terrific CHVProm 2015 Committee and the Department of Public Works, this nondescript gym gets transformed into Cheverly's big dance: it's time for CHVProm 2015! A handful of tickets are still available -- act fast and you may still be in luck! Email Lane Thompson for details.

CHVProm begins at 8:00pm on Friday, May 15, and doesn't runout of gas until midnight. Competition for the best decorated table is always fierce, and over the years, we've been impressed by Cheverly Metro, Feral Foxes, Gilligan and friends, 007 and Goldfinger...What ever happened to the gold mannequin that decorated that table? Last time we saw her, she was crowd surfing, then riding in the 80th Anniversary Parade the next morning. Anyhow, CHVProm is always a wild night, and this year, we hear that many partygoers are running with our Keep Cheverly Wild Theme. We can't wait to see the results!

Keep up to the minute with all things CHVProm 2015 on Twitter, and use #CHVProm in your tweets to share the evening with everyone!

While the decor and fashions are always great fun, dancing and food are big draws! Cheverly has a wealth of great cooks, and the potluck buffet served up at CHVProm is fantastic.

A note from the CHVProm Committee...

A note rom the CHVProm committee re CHVProm tickets: As of Friday morning, Town Hall still has 3 individual standing room only tickets ($15 each) and 5 tables ($180 each, can accommodate up to 12 individuals). Don't forget all proceeds go to local charity.
BLUF: Get your table now!
"But... I really wanted individual seated tickets!!" Okay, while we can't promise anything, here's what we're doing for now. If you wanted individual seated tickets but weren't able to get them before they sold out, simply email Lane at lane.thompson@yahoo.com with your requested # of tickets, your name, and your phone number. I will put you on a waiting list for any tickets that become available (or if I get 12 such requests and there is still a table unsold, voila - I'll create a table from the waiting list right away!). Once you're on the list you're committed to purchasing the tickets if they're made available to you. Please don't call me to add yourself to the waiting list - doing this by email only so I can time stamp everyone fairly  Just FYI - Town Hall can't assist you with the waiting list (and they can't reserve tables for you - still first come first serve folks!).
Regardless, there IS still room at CHVProm both in terms of tables and individual seats, but don't delay!

Countdown to Cheverly Day: The CHVProm Photo Booth

At this time next week, we'll all be recovering from a very fun Cheverly Day 2013... There are so many  quirky traditions of Cheverly Day -- mostly brought about by necessity. After all, CHVProm became the amazing DIY event that it is today because a group of "concerned" citizens did not want to let the dance die when funding became an issue.

One of our favorite CHVProm traditions is the photo booth, most ably manned by Susan & Joseph Pruden. Every year, the Prudens set up a mini-studio right in the middle of CHVProm.

We love watching the groups, pairs, and the occasional solo subject do their thing in front of the camera.

Countdown to Cheverly Day: Table Decorating at CHVProm

Over the years, the CHVProm table decorating contest has become a serious competitive event. There are people in this town who spend many, many hours planning and executing weird, fantastic, wonderfully creative themed tables. Over the years, we've seen aquariums, tributes to James Bond (and naked golden mannequins being hoisted over the dance floor), flamingoes...the list goes on and on.
The couple behind some of our all-time favorite tables (and multi-year award winners), Dave & Casey Kneipp, were kind enough to answer a few questions for us about what goes into making a truly spectacular -- and possibly prize-winning -- CHVProm table...
  • What goes into making a truly great CHVProm table?  An attention-grabbing theme is a must, something current or iconic like Cherry Blossoms or James Bond. Have a WOW factor, such as a full size golden mannequin or 3’ tall lighted tank with live fish. Pyrotechnics are frowned upon, save those for the next day, please. It is good to have esprit de corps amongst the table members, dressing up to supplement the theme, costuming fellow table attendees in matching outfits (togas, tuxes). Remember the small details; accouterments that complement the motif (squirt guns, paper parasols). Do not forget to include appropriate barware for your beverage of choice in your plan. Gift bags for your table guests or as bribes for the judges.
  • Any advice for first-time table decorators?   Have fun with it, it is after all a prom, and we are on parade!
  • Without giving away your plans for this year (or next), anything that you haven't done yet that you'd love to pull off in the future?   Thinking ahead to next year,....we’re contemplating Game of Thrones....may haps toilets on wheels?

CHVProm -- the hottest party in town!

CHVProm is Friday, May 17, 8pm until midnight! From amazing themed tables to wonderful food, music and dancing -- and lots of fun with friends and neighbors -- the annual CHVProm is the hottest ticket in town!

Every year, the adults of Cheverly let loose on this great night -- and tickets sell out fast every year! Tickets for the 2013 CHVProm will go on sale on Monday, April 15. Individual tickets are $15 per person or you can buy a full table of 12 for $180. All table reservations must be made with a payment! Individual tickets and tables of 12 will be sold at Town Hall during normal business hours.

Preparations are under way!

The Community Center is a flurry of activity as volunteers prepare for CHVProm, the art show & fair, and all the activities that will be under way at this time tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who is helping make this Cheverly Day great!

It always amazes me that our humble Community Center gym can go from a big, empty space to a charming, intimate party in just one day. Tables are already set up, decorations are being added, games of chance are being unloaded (thanks, Jolene) and Emily is playing her favorite hits of the '80s. It's magic time!

Liz Lescault and Casey Kneipp have done a tremendous job setting up the art show -- CHVProm attendees will be able to see some of the work tonight, but to really get the whole scope of the show and fair, you'll need to visit the Community Center tomorrow between noon and 5pm.

Finally, the Public Works crew is hard at work all over town today making Cheverly look its very best. Make sure to wave and say thanks because they're working hard for all of us. The softball field will be gorgeous for tomorrow's game at noon!

This really is a special weekend -- we hope you enjoy all there is to experience this Cheverly Day!
