CHVProm -- the hottest party in town!

CHVProm is Friday, May 17, 8pm until midnight! From amazing themed tables to wonderful food, music and dancing -- and lots of fun with friends and neighbors -- the annual CHVProm is the hottest ticket in town!

Every year, the adults of Cheverly let loose on this great night -- and tickets sell out fast every year! Tickets for the 2013 CHVProm will go on sale on Monday, April 15. Individual tickets are $15 per person or you can buy a full table of 12 for $180. All table reservations must be made with a payment! Individual tickets and tables of 12 will be sold at Town Hall during normal business hours.

Like almost every event in Cheverly, CHVProm relies on a legion of volunteers. Want to get involved? They need sponsors, prize donations, and help with set-up and clean-up. Please contact Jennifer Daniels.

Sin Miedo at Cheverly Day 2013!

We welcome salsa orchestra Sin Miedo to Cheverly Day! Sin Miedo is a ten piece band- one trumpet, one trombone, one sax, timbales, conga, bongo, piano, Bass and two lead singers. 

Led by French pianist Didier Prossaird, Sin Miedo has been performing in the DC-Baltimore area for the past 10 years, collaborating with salsa greats Tito Allen and Frankie Vasquez, touring the US and abroad with the Washington Ballet, performing in music halls at Gala Theater and providing Salsa music for the hottest dance nights in the Capital. 

The repertoire of the band includes original music with Spanish and French lyrics and the Salsa classics of the 70’s to today’s latest hits as well as Latin jazz. 

Get those dancing shoes out and practice your salsa moves -- this is going to be hot!

New this year: Fit+Fun Cheverly

We're very pleased to announce a new addition to Chev erly Day for 2013 -- Fit+Fun Cheverly! If you think about it, Cheverly Day has long offered great activities to get everyone moving, such as Cicada Crunch, the 3-on-3 Basketball Tourney, and softball. This year, we're kicking it up a bit, and we want you to join in!

Cheverly's own Kelly Fisher will lead a yoga session on the stage at 1pm, and everyone is welcome. You may know Kelly from her Wildflower Yoga classes, leading yoga practitioners in the 85th Anniversary Parade, her bands (she's performed at both Cheverly Day and ChvProm), and Cheverly Community Market, where she plays nearly every Market and is active on the Board. Kelly is a Cheverly treasure -- we're very fortunate to have her with us on May 18! Wear comfortable clothes, and bring water and a mat, if you have one.

Magician Charles Hutchinson has been practicing magic for over four years and performing professionally for two. You may remember Charles' excellent performance at Cheverly Day in 2012. He also performs at birthday parties, educational events, and holiday functions. He was honored to perform for for military families at Fort Belvoir in 2011.

Community Groups...we need YOU!

Are you active in a Cheverly community group? We're looking for as many community organizations as possible to get involved this year...let's make it a truly "Homegrown in Cheverly" Day! We'll be asking groups to come up with (and host) a game in the Community Center parking lot on May 18 -- whether it's a hula-hooping competition, guessing the number of gum drops in a jar, hopscotch, or something truly unique, we're looking for your best, brightest ideas, so get those thinking caps on and let the games begin!

Cheverly Day will be here sooner than you know it, and we're eager to bring you all the news! Visit our website and, of course, follow our blog for the latest updates and special features on all things “Homegrown in Cheverly”. 

This year, kick off Cheverly day festivities with a trip to Cheverly Community Market, 8am to noon, at the Community Center. Shop, visit, eat, and enjoy live entertainment that will set the stage for a great “Homegrown in Cheverly” celebration! There's truly something for everyone at Cheverly Day, including the best annual DIY ChvProm dance for adults the night before; the 2013 Cicada Crunch 5k Race/2k Fun Walk (the race will cover both sides of Cheverly, so get training!); Midway activities including moonbounces and lots of great games; laser tag; the 3 on 3 Basketball Tourney; and the Softball Game; and a great lineup of live music and entertainment on the stage, including favorites from years past and artists that will be favorites soon! Don’t forget delicious food from your favorite Cheverly Day vendors and THE FIREWORKS!
