Haven't heard from us?
Bubble Soccer at Cheverly Day 2015!!
We are so excited to share this special Cheverly Day 2016 event with you...
Bubble Soccer -- 2:30-6:30 on the Town Park Field
Sponsored by the Cheverly Cheverly Soccer Club
We're always looking for new experiences to bring to Cheverly Day, and this year we've got something big. Literally. BUBBLE SOCCER! We think it sounds like a blast, and hope you do, too! Join your friends and neighbors for a game this Cheverly Day and try something new. Interested? Please download and complete the form here -- we're trying to gauge interest. Many thanks to Cheverly Soccer Club for sponsoring this great addition to Cheverly Day 2016!
The objective of bubble soccer is to score against your opponent’s net and knock each other down while trying. You could argue that this is one of those games where defense is more fun. The game starts much like a competitive game of dodgeball. When players hear the whistle, they fearlessly rush in to the center to find and kick a soccer ball through their about-to-be sweaty Battle Ball suit. The ever-increasing amount of sweat will eventually make visibility an ongoing struggle because the exercise is real and this IS most definitely a sport.
Players’ hands are fixed inside the bubble, requiring them to maintain balance using just their legs. Mobility is sacrificed in this game – but the Battle Balls have leveled the playing field for players of different sizes. Leaping ability and stress levels are the two most relevant variables. In regards to safety, we think that the coach and players sitting on the bench are in the greatest danger — you never know when an active player will accidentally steamroll the sidelines. It might take a few rotations for players to find their “game legs,” so in the beginning, they often become somewhat of a “human wrecking ball.”
Are there any restrictions/requirements?
A height of 5′ 2″ – 6′ 2″ for large 1.5m balls and a height of 4′ 2″ – 5′ 7″ for the smaller 1.2m balls is recommended. These are approximate ranges as it also depends on how tall your neck and head are and how the back straps fit on you. We recommend having 4-8 inches of space above your head to the top surface of the ball to allow you to flip over. Smaller players are able to even crouch their legs into the ball and do advanced tricks. Taller players using balls not suited for them play at their own discretion.
Each game will last about 15 minutes, and there will be two or three games per hour. The cost per player is $5 per game, or field a team of five players for $20 per game!

We could use your help!
Cheverly Day relies on many volunteers to succeed every year...and this year we want YOU to join! There are opportunities at every level -- putting the putt putt holes back in working order, helping with the parade, stage help, midway games, logistics, breaking things down on May 22...we're sure there are some great things you can do to help that we haven't even thought of yet! This is another great way to share your support of Cheverly day 2016 with the entire community, and a terrific way for students to earn those all-important service hours.
