This year, Cheverly Day will celebrate the Made in Cheverly theme with a special show of works by local fine artists and craftspeople. We'll be highlighting the artists that are participating on our website, including Cheverly residents Rose Fennell and Madeleine Golde. CHVProm Joins Community Partners in Sponsoring a Candidate for Maryland Girls State

CHVProm, along with the Cheverly community and Post 108 Auxiliary, is proud to sponsor a candidate for this year's Maryland Girls State. Girls State, held June 17-22 at the Salisbury University,  is a national youth program sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. The young women learn about city, county, and state government while the developing leadership skills, confidence, and poise that will form a lasting foundation for their professional lives.

IF YOU KNOW A YOUNG LADY (current junior/rising senior) who might be interested, I ask that you please forward her/her parents' contact information to me, or have them contact Lane Thompson. We need to hear from interested parties ASAP. 

Requirements:
Eligibility: Current high school junior/rising senior females
Cost: $35 to the applicant, the remainder of the tuition/room/board is covered
Orientation: Attendance at an orientation session is mandatory, these are offered during April and May in the local region
Interest: Candidates should have an interest in learning about the American democratic process and the responsibilities of citizenship.

What does "Made in Cheverly" mean to you?

We recently asked for responses to the question "What does Made in Cheverly mean to you?" Our first response comes from Cathy Smith, a long-time Cheverly resident who is active in many community groups, including Progressive Cheverly. You may remember Cathy from her starring role on one of the parade floats last year!

One of the best things about Cheverly is how it illustrates the role of a close-knit community on children. We now have -- what? -- at least three generations of kids born and raised here, and many of them are doing awesome things in the world. Physicists, professional musicians and actors, social activists, soon-to-be environmental engineers, entrepreneurs, teachers, lawyers, dedicated moms and dads and many more come to mind. Having the love and support of a village really does take care of a child. 


Thank you for this wonderful, thoughtful response. We agree: strong, smart families are Made in Cheverly!
